Scuba Diving – How to Become a Certified Diver

If you are looking for an activity that offers joy, adventure and wonder, you would love scuba diving. It is possible to become a certified diver with PADI scuba diving courses which you would be able to get at your nearest dive shop or center.

Here are the requirements to become a certified diver.

Age Requirements

To be a scuba diver, you should be at least 10 years old. Divers younger than 15 can train for the PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification while those under the age of 13 require guardian permission to register for PADI eLearning.

Medical Questionnaire

All student divers need to complete a brief scuba medical questionnaire about any medical conditions that could be a problem while diving. If any of these apply to you, you need to get a medical form signed by your doctor that confirms your fitness for diving.

Basic Skills

Before the PADI Open Water Diver course, your instructor may ask you to demonstrate basic water skills such as –

  • Swimming for 200 meters/yards in mask, fins and snorkel
  • Float and tread water for 10 minutes

The Course

You can choose the course options from online, web-based or classroom course, followed by dive training with an instructor.
