How far in advance should I make a booking?
To avoid disappointment, we recommend making your diving reservations at least a few days in advance.
We’re also happy to take bookings as far as a month to a year prior to your planned dates.
What are your sales and cancellation policies?
I bought a voucher. How long is it good for?
Vouchers purchased through Living Social and Travel Zoo websites are valid for 1 year from date of purchase.
COMMON SCUBA DIVING QUESTIONS
What is the minimum age for scuba diving?
Diving is a great family activity and children as young as 10 years old are welcome to participate with parental consent.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer in order to dive?
You don’t have to be Michael Phelps in order to come diving, however basic water skills and comfort in the water are essential for diving.
There are no minimum swim requirements to participate in the uncertified diver Discover Scuba Diving program so begin your underwater journey today.
During the Open Water certification course students are required to complete a 300 yard untimed swim using mask, snorkel, and fins and also a 10-minute float in water too deep to stand.
How long is my dive certification good for?
Your scuba certification is valid for life! However, if it’s been a few months (or a few years) since you’ve been in the water it’s a good idea to sign up for our Scuba Review course. Our professional instructors will get you back up to speed with the latest gear and safe diving techniques so you can get the most enjoyment from your dives.
I’ve lost my PADI certification card. Can I replace it?
Yes. You can order a replacement directly ONLINE WITH PADI if you have a digital head-and-shoulders picture or our staff would be happy to take care of this for you when you stop by the dive shop.
Are there any medical conditions that may prevent me from diving?
Please review the RSTC Medical Statement prior to your scheduled charter or dive course.
If you can answer “YES” to ANY question on Page 1, we will need your physician’s permission and signature on Page 2 before your dives.
Scuba diving is an exciting and demanding activity. To Scuba dive safely, you must not be extremely overweight or out of condition. Diving can be strenuous under certain conditions. Your respiratory and circulatory systems must be in good health. All body air spaces must be normal and healthy. A person with heart trouble, a current cold or congestion, epilepsy, asthma, a severe medical problem, or who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, should not dive. If taking medication, consult your doctor before participating.
I’m taking the open water course with PADI elearning. How long does the online elearning portion take to complete?
PADI eLearning materials are a convenient way to finish your dive course materials in your free time.
You should allow at least 8-10 total hours to complete all of the required materials. However, all of the sections do not have to be completed in one sitting and study time can be broken up to fit your personal schedule.
I’m flying home soon. How long do I have to wait after I dive?
Current research recommends waiting at least 18 hours between the end of your last dive and when your flight leaves.
I’ve already completed the classroom and pool portions of my dive course. Can I finish my certification with you?
Absolutely as long as your training has been completed within the past year. You will need to bring your referral form signed by your instructor as well as your logbook. Please contact us to arrange your dives.
What should I bring on the day of my dives?
You will need a swimming suit, towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, dry clothes to change into, and any other personal items you may need on the boat throughout the day. Also, if you own any dive or snorkeling gear that you’d like to use, please bring that as well.
Keep in mind that space on dive boats is limited, so we recommend keeping all of your things in a small backpack or day bag.
If you’re a certified diver, please bring your certifcation card and logbook (if you have one).
If you’re taking a diving course, please bring your crew pack each day of the course.
Where will we go diving?
We have the flexibility to dive all sides of Oahu depending on current surf and weather conditions.
Our most popular dive spots and wrecks are located on the South and West Sides of the island.
The dive boat captain and dive crew will pick the best dive sites available based on customer requests as well as water and diving conditions on the day of the charter.
What is the water temperature and visibility like in Oahu?
During the summer months the water temperature ranges from 79-82°F.
During the winter months the water temperature ranges from 75-79°F.
Visibility in the water can vary greatly from day to day and even hour by hour. Typically though we enjoy 60-100+ feet of visibility on most dive sites year-round.
What kinds of marine life is there to see in Oahu?
The main draw for many divers to Hawaii is the abundance of endemic reef fish. About 1/3 of all the fish seen on Hawaiian reefs are found only in Hawaii! We also commonly see green sea turtles, many types of eels, octopus, eagle rays, white tip reef sharks, and the occasional monk seal. There are also many different types of beautiful stony coral that make up Hawaiian reefs. Part of the beauty of diving is never knowing what surprises you’ll encounter during each dive!
I had an awesome time! Is it appropriate to tip my instructor?
Our instructors work very hard to ensure that you are safe, have fun, and receive top notch scuba training during all of the charters and courses we teach at Ocean Legends. Gratuities are always greatly appreciated. Most divers feel comfortable with a comparable gratuity for the customer service industry of 20% of the full retail value of their charter or course.
