Darren Fox, President
Darren Fox is the owner and founder of Ocean Legends Hawaii. He is a PADI Master Instructor, SDI/TDI Instructor Trainer and IANTD Instructor with 25 years of experience. Darren has had a lifelong love of the ocean, diving for the first time at age seven. Some people joke that he has gills! Fox is a firm believer in continuing education and always challenging yourself. He has served as both training and company director of several dive centers in Hawaii and New Zealand. Darren’s passion is technical and Rebreather diving, and he is well-known in these challenging and innovative fields.
Due to his leadership and quality of instruction, Ocean Legends is fast becoming the destination for this type of training. Fox is an avid expedition diver and has worked with National Geographic on mapping and cave exploration projects in Iceland, Galapagos Islands, the Yucatan and Hawaii. While in college, he worked as a commercial diver on and around the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Darren is also a committed shark conservationist and marine advocate. He has a Asia Pacific pilot’s license for both Robinson choppers and Cessna aircraft.
Kerry Dean Fields was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. Upon graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Aerospace Engineering, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. Prior to active duty, he had a brief stint working as an engineer for the Air Force Research Lab located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Following his work as an engineer, he began training to become an Air Force Pilot, an accomplishment that took a little under two years to complete. After graduation, he proceeded to fly multiple airframes all over the world. He has accumulated over 2,500 flight hours in 10+ airframes including the venerable C-17A Globemaster III.
Throughout this time he has visited over 50+ countries spanning 5 continents. In addition to avidly traveling the world, he enjoys martial arts and cardio kickboxing, tinkering with computers and electronics, reading, exploration of any form to include, of course, open circuit and rebreather diving. He currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Alison first got certified in 2001 through NAUI in a freezing cold, muddy lake in Denver. After that experience, it took her 9 years to try diving again when she moved to Hawaii. Since finding Ocean Legends, Alison discovered the new horizons that closed circuit rebreathers can open and was the first female Hollis Prism 2 decompression diver in the state of Hawaii (whatever that means). She’s excited to share the joy of diving, and the excitement of rebreather diving in particular, with everyone interested in scuba diving in Oahu! Alison is a also a member of the armed services and enjoys the opportunities her career gives her to travel around the world in search of new dive adventures.
Greg MacDonald, originally from Eugene, OR served 9 years in the United States Navy and currently serves for 9 plus years in the United States Army. He is a certified PADI Divemaster and is actively training to become an IANTD Rebreather Instructor on the CCR Liberty. Greg joined the International Diving Academy family from the beginning, not just as a student but as a faculty member as well. As a Military Veteran Greg works with perspective candidates in helping those who wish to use their Post 9/11 GI Bill® or Vocational Rehab to become Dive Professionals. He provides counseling on their career goals and how to best use their VA education benefits to achieve them. Greg also plays an active role in IDA’s social media presence by managing the FaceBook page and Instagram account. And finally, Greg serves on the International Diving Academy’s Board of Advisers to ensure that the Veteran’s needs are addressed and advocated for in all company decisions.
Steven is an avid diver and an advocate for ocean conservation. He is a qualified Technical Rebreather diver and loves diving in Hawaii. Darren and Steven share a close friendship and love diving in Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.
